Thanksgiving Sayings

Vegetarian who eats turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas?

I'm a vegitarian and recently my friend decided to try it as well but she says that she'll be vegitarian every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas because she doesnt want to give up turkey at special times, sayings its part of the tradition and theres family there, expected to eat etc, she says that being a meat eater two days a year is better than 365 days. Whats your thoughts on it?

  1. You can be part-time veggie.
  2. i;m sure she'd change her mind. but vegetarians don't eat any animals any day of the year so she'd just be someone who doesn't eat RED meat but will still eat poultry.
  3. I did the same thing your friend is doing for the first year or so I gave up meat. It was a personal decision. I have since gotten to the point where I can not stand the smell of poultry and really have no desire to eat it. I guess it was a natural progression in the process of being a vegetarian. I'm sure there are a lot of purists out there who would disagree, but I feel that it is better to splurge on rare occasion than to consume meat on a regular basis.
  4. Most vegetarians eat meat a few times a year on accident, so if your friend just did it a few days a year on purpose then i see no problem.
  5. its of course better than eating meat everyday, but its still wrong. explain nicely to your friend that animals used for food are treated terribly, being anally and vaginally electricuted, kicked, beaten, burned to death in scalding hot water, stabbed and skinned alive, all while fully conscious and animals are smart too pigs are as smart as 3 year old children, and all animals have family and friends too!!! if she still doesnt believe you, show her some videos on peta.com
  6. thats so stupid you know how many turkeys die a year for people millions of animals die cause of dumb people , try tofurky its like turkey but its not meat please dont eat turkeys
  7. Its better than a full out meat eater.
  8. I like turkey also I like lots of vegetables I've been buying the new small turkey called Butterball Lil. We have turkey alot because we like thanksgiving dinner all the time.
  9. as a vegetarian i think that not eating meat is a choice, and part of that choice what drives you to make it, weather you can't stand cruelty to animals or whatever ... if your friend wants to be a vegetarian, then great! but what are her reasons behind it, because if she hasn't got one other than because you don't eat meat either or it seems like a cool thing to try then she is more than likely not going to stick to being a vegetarian. just my thoughts ...
  10. If that is what floats her boat it sounds like a good deal to me.
  11. She is free to eat however she wants, but if she eats meat she is not a vegetarian, and should not refer to herself as such.
  12. she's not a vegetarian a vegetarian or a vegan NEVER eats animal products unless of course by accident at which point they just know better for next time case and point i'm vegan but i USED to have jamba juice until i found out they use a diary thing in their drinks
  13. I don't think that counts as being a true vegetarian. in my opinion, true vegetarians live it fully for the cause. you can't say, "I love animals and am not going to eat them except for..." because then you're not committing.
  14. Meh it's better than eating meat 365 days a year in any case. Good for her.
  15. it's def better, but she isn't a vegetarian is she knows she'll eat meat sometimes. why not go all the way and commit? i personally get really depressed around thanksgiving thinking of how many turkey's are killed just because of tradition, then end up going to waste anyway.
  16. I wouldn't say that makes her a vegetarian. The most important reason for becoming a vegetarian is saving lives. Your friend must not know what they do to these poor animals. Basically, I don't agree with your friend.
