Should we be celebrating or Mourning Thanksgiving Day? A Dark History for Native Americans?
Don't forget how Pilgrims stole this land from the Native Americans, leading to Americans destroying the culture and slaughtering the Native Americans who attempted to defend their land from the Christian invaders. You can say Americans celebrating Thanksgiving is as inappropriate as Germans celebrating the Holocaust. Check out this short video of the real dark history of Thanksgiving told by Wednesday Addams: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccj2BH25c0I

- I celebrate Thanksgiving as a day to give thanks for what I have and for my family. Bad things have happened all throughout history to every race but its time to move on. To celebrate or not celebrate it is completely up to you. Thats the great thing about freedom. I really didnt want to watch the video so I didnt.
- I totally agree with you about how Thanksgiving was the beginning of the destruction of Native Americans. Those Indians inviting the pilgrims over had no idea of what their future was gonna become. They might've scalped them on the spot if they only knew. I loved the video...I will spread the word!
- I dont even care what Im celebrating. I just like to eat all the food and drink the beer and watch the football, things like that.
- There isn't anyone on this planet who hasn't suffered at sometime in history; the purpose of Thanksgiving was to be thankful for friends and the bounty of the land; that isn't changing to this day; at the very least we are to learn from the past mistakes and try not to promote them; life is a gift that is meant to be celebrating; look at who is our next president; the world is an endless possibility to be thankful and give and share thanks to move with a better foot forward in time and humanity
- you are right! I have wondered why the blacks in America seem to forget that they are not the only ones who went through what they did in history. I hope some way you find a way to celebrate. I have a special love for the Native Americans!
- Thanksgiving wasn't the cause of the Native Americans loss. Now it is a commercial holiday, instead of a harvest celebration. Thanksgiving doesn't really have much to do with it. I am not saying killing the Indians was right at all. Also, wasn't there a trade involved in the "land stealing"? Anyways, Thanksgiving wasn't really thanksgiving back then. Thanksgiving wasn't actually made until much later (When Lincon was in office??), so it's wrong to associate slaughtering Indians with Thanksgiving.
